Happy Halloween!

Jack has been wanting to be a panda for months. We thought he would forget about the idea and I might have even tried to convince him to be something else (when I saw the slew of other costumes in his size at Costco) but he was set on Panda and never forgot. I have to say, he was pretty adorable, and the only panda I saw on Halloween. It really is perfect, too, since we have been to the zoo so much this year and Jack loves seeing the pandas. First on our Halloween agenda, trick-or-treating at the church Halloween party.
He checked out his candy after every door.
Sweet Miss Myla was a little ladybug . . .love those striped tights!
Candy followed up by doughnuts!? What a sweet Halloween party!
Jack with his friends Charlotte, the lion, and Reese, the dalmation. So cute!In addition to fun games like bowling, fishing, golfing, and a cupcake walk, there was a room filled with balloons. The room was limited to the three and under crowd and each child who walked in received two fly swatters to hit the balloons. Jack loved it. What a great idea!!Jack and Reese . . .whenever these two are together they end up spinning around and around and eventually falling down with laughter and dizziness. So fun!Halloween night trick-or-treating in our friends' neighborhood.Lucky trick-or-treaters. Free candy, having fun with your friends . . .what could be better?

Myla's Blessing

We blessed Myla last week. Matt gave her a wonderful blessing and my parents were able to fly out to be here.

What a handsome boy! He looks older every day!

What a pretty girl! Myla loves chewing on her hands.

My mom knitted these darling booties and smocked a dress for Myla's blessing.

We had a fun outing at the C&O Canal. We rode the canal boat that is pulled by mules and manned by volunteers that run the boat exactly as they did in the 1870s. It was really neat. Jack kept talking about the donkey pulling the boat with the rope.
Ice Cream at Pop's in Old Town Alexandria

Saturday was the National Book Festival on The Mall and there was an amazing PBS Kids tent. We saw Steve Songs perform and then . . .

Jack met Clifford!!!!! Look at that happy face!
Later, "another" Clifford came out and Jack was so excited to give Clifford another hug. He was not one bit shy.
Then . . . Curious George!!!! Jack just absolutely loved this. He was so excited he ran straight to Mimi and Gramps (who were sitting with Myla) and told them all about it with a huge smile on his face.

What a fun weekend!

DC Sights!

Over Labor Day weekend, Matt's mom and her husband, Darron, came for a visit. We had a lot of fun with them and were able to squeeze in a bunch of sightseeing trips while they were here.
Jack, Grandma, and Darron in front of the National Cathedral:

Jack lasted about two minutes on the tour but luckily there was a lot of space to run around and play outside:

I love these pictures of Jack that Matt snapped!

A great view from Arlington Cemetery:Below is a rare family photo with all four of us! Myla was a trooper the whole visit--she was in the Baby Bjorn almost the entire time. She'd nap, wake up to eat, look around for a while and then fall back asleep. What a good girl!
We took a tour of Ford's theatre:
After we hoisted Jack onto this elephant I noticed the "no climbing" sign. Oh well--this is perfect because it has the DC metro map on it.
In front of Ben's Chili Bowl:
Matt enjoying his half smoke. That chili is spicy!
At the Dulles Air and Space Museum. Jack loved running up and down the big aisles and pointing out all the airplanes.
Jack was able to "fly" a little Cessna. So neat!
The high-powered hand dryers might have been his favorite thing. :)
This is from the terrace of the Kennedy Center. We learned that they give free guided tours of the center on a walk-in basis. The best part is this amazing view!
DC is such a fun place to live. We had a great time!

One month!

Myla is already one month old. She is such a sweet baby! At her two week appointment she had gained almost two pounds since leaving the hospital! I couldn't believe it! At her one month appointment this week she is weighing in at over 10 pounds. She's our growing girl!
Is there anything sweeter than a sleeping newborn baby girl?
Yes! It's even sweeter when her big brother Jack snuggles up to her! We can't imagine life without these two!Jack is a great big brother. Yesterday I put Myla in her bouncer so I could make dinner. Totally on his own, Jack ran to his bedroom, picked out a book, and took it to Myla. He began showing her the pictures and telling her the noises the animals make. So fun!
Happy girl:
Mid-sneeze:
Here's a cute picture of Matt and Jack at the zoo. We went on a family outing one day. It was so fun! Myla slept in her stroller the whole time.

Two weeks!

I can't believe Myla is already more than two weeks old! Time goes even faster with two! We are loving life with newborn Myla. She is so sweet and we are all, big brother Jack included, enjoying every minute with her.
She always gets her arms out of her swaddle!
My mom arrived the day after Myla was born and was such a huge help! She cooked us great meals, kept our place clean, and most importantly, took care of and played with Jack. He had a great time with Mimi playing with toys, reading books, going to library story time, watering the flowers, and much more. She also took care of Myla when it was time for Mommy or Daddy to spend some time with Jack or just have a nap. Thanks so much, Mom!
Now, Matt is home with us! He was able to take last week and this week off of work. It has been so great to have him home! Jack is having so much fun with Daddy. "Daddy no have to go to work today!" They've played at the park, played ball, gone to the library, and even gone to a movie. Not to mention Matt helping out so much with Myla and everything around the house. One really great thing is that I get to sleep in and take naps! It's been so fun to have so much time together to bond as a family with new baby Myla. We are not going to want Daddy to go back to work! We've been sure to have some summer time fun with Jack. Here he is swimming with his friend Reese at a great baby pool.

MMMMM . . . Italian Ice!

The other day, while Matt stayed home with Myla, I took Jack on a little outing to the farmer's market where they have live music. We took a little break to cool down after our walk. Jack is crazy about water bottles!

Jack loved dancing to the music. He would bounce up and down and clap his hands and then tap his toes to the rhythm. We had such a fun time!

Myla McNair has arrived!

Myla McNair was born at 5:58 pm on Sunday, July 19th. She weighed 7 lbs 10 oz and was 20 inches long. Labor and delivery was suprisingly quick and we were so thrilled to finally meet her! She's almost four days old! Here are a few pictures. Just born:
First picture with Mom (who is feeling great!):
With Daddy:
Big brother Jack comes to the hospital to meet Myla:
Jack is a wonderful big brother and loves to hold baby sister and help with her diaper changes. He also loves to put her hat on and try to give her binky. Myla is so lucky to have such a great big brother!
She is a great sleeper!
So sweet! We love you Myla and are so blessed you are part of our family!

Fun with Daddy

A couple of weeks ago I took Jack down to the Smithsonian for a Toddler Rock concert. He had a great time dancing and clapping along. Afterwards we met Matt for lunch at his office. We had so much fun!
On Father's Day we woke up to perfect kite-flying weather. Initially the kite was pretty low . . .

then Matt got it so high!

Jack loved holding the kite but there were a couple of times when he forgot about holding on and Matt sprinted after it. It was so funny!

I just had to post these two pictures that really capture Jack:

After all that kite-flying excitement, and church, it was time for a much needed rest:

Last week we went to see the Red Sox play against the Nationals. There were more Red Sox fans than Nationals fans and Jack caught on really quickly to the "Let's Go Red Sox" chant. He says it all the time now when he sees anything that reminds him of baseball. It was the perfect summer evening for a baseball game and we had a great time.

Jack loves spending time with Matt and we have so much fun when we're together. He always want to be like Daddy:
